Integrating Fault and Performance Data

dopplerVUEThe most direct approach to network troubleshooting is an integrated approach. For a network management system (NMS), both network fault and performance information must be seen from any screen, at any time. So dopplerVUE doesn’t strictly separate fault and performance. Instead alarm status and performance indicators can be found in multiple views.

All network topology views, or network maps, have built-in performance and fault monitoring:

  • Devices on the map light up with alarms as the details populate in a corresponding alarm grid.
  • Every map has a dopplerScale, the unique performance indicator that colors devices according to their performance in areas like utilization and availability.
  • Network topology views can be combined with performance measuring charts to form a single comprehensive view that speeds network troubleshooting.

Network inventory views also show network performance and fault information:

  • The Inventory ListVUE, a catalog of devices and interfaces in the network infrastructure, includes alarm states and over 25 possible performance metrics for each device.
  • The Inventory tree, a categorized hierarchy of devices and interfaces, also indicates alarm severities for every device in alarm.
  • The Inventory Locator is a sortable, filtered listing of the network inventory with both alarm states and performance measurements like packet loss, availability response time and utilization.

And, dopplerVUE’s OpsCenter combines multiple performance and fault displays to create a comprehensive dashboard with:

  • the integrated network topology
  • up to top 25 alarmed devices
  • up to top 25 key performance indicators for devices
